Golf Clubs

Moscow golf club history is directly associated with the Russian golf history. The first Russian “Moscow city Golf Club” was the only one in the country for many years. Everything began with the idea of the well-known Swedish hockey player and former world champion Sven Tumba Johansson to arrange the first golf field in the Russian capital. First the idea appeared to be unfeasible – it was necessary to obtain permission for construction and most important – to awaken interest of Russians towards this unusual game, to make them love golf.

1987 became the decisive year - Sven Tumba Johansson obtained permission for construction of the golf field and on September 15 of this year the long-awaited groundbreaking took place at the municipal waste ground in Dovzhenko Street. The most famous sportsmen: Pele, Mike Tyson, Sven Tumba and Alexander Ragulin made the symbolic club hits. This day is considered to be the day of foundation of the Moscow golf club. Six of nine Moscow golf field holes are the four-pair ones and three – three-pair ones. The total game distance is 2,343 meters. In spite of relatively moderate length, the field is not easy for playing. Narrow fairways and tight greens require extremely aimed hits. There are 23 bunkers on the fairways and around the greens. The lateral and frontal water often complicates the game intrigue even greater.

The architect succeeded in creating full-fledged golf fields in the fairly limited space on the waste ground in the flood land of the confluent of the Moskva River – Setun River. More than twenty years elapsed since then. The popularity of golf increased during this time. More and more young people began to master the technique and understand the details of this game.

Magnificent panorama of the vicinity is seen from the territory of the golf fields, with the monuments of modern architecture of the Victory Park and of medieval architecture – well-known Church of Life-Giving Trinity in Troitskoye-Golenishchevo; the high-rise building of the University is also very well visible.
