Technical schools
Secondary vocational educational institutions of Moscow are comprised of technical schools and colleges. Technical school (or training school) is a secondary school with basic level vocational training curricula. Such schools provide basic skills necessary to master a particular job. For more advanced skills students must attend an appropriate college. A college is a secondary school with basic and enhanced vocational training curricula.
Technical schools and colleges train specialists in virtually all industries and trades. This is the most common and fundamental element of training of skilled workers. Basic professional skills are becoming increasingly important year after year against the background of boosting industry and expansion of private business areas.
Secondary schools differ in specialization. The most popular and sought-after professions and specialties are currently deemed to be technical ones. Recently technical schools and colleges also have undertaken to train professionals in public servicing, tourism, restaurant and hotel business, and in other trades.
There are currently approximately 60 technical schools, polytechnics, training schools and over 300 colleges in Moscow.
