Kindergartens and Nurseries
Preschool educational institutions of Moscow are kindergartens and nurseries . As well as other educational institutions of the city, kindergartens and nurseries can be public and private. Besides, public and private preschool educational institutions of Moscow can apply standard educational programs as well as additional educational programs. As a rule modern kindergartens are combined with nurseries which enable to ensure consistency of the educational process, especially in the educational institutions with additional courses and special programs.
Children can attend nursery at the age of 1, and can be transferred to the junior group of the kindergarten at the age of three.
Children in kindergartens learn how to communicate and acquire first knowledge. It is incumbent upon the staff of kindergartens to organize walks, outdoor games; some of the preschool educational institutions of Moscow have swimming pools.
At present there are preschool educational institutions with an in-depth learning of foreign languages, with early development programs, with special programs for school preparation. Most of the kindergartens with an in-depth learning of foreign languages are private. In the majority of kindergartens with the exclusive programs and special educational methodologies children develop speech skills, are taught art work, learn languages, music, have choreography lessons, physical training lessons and even make theatrical performances. Such kindergartens are part of educational centers for children, where a systematic approach of teaching and development of individual abilities is applied. The lessons are organized in the form of games; the consultations of speech therapists, defectologists, and psychologists are also provided for. Some of the kindergartens and nurseries use progressive psychological methods of teaching, which consider the peculiar interaction of various national cultures present in Moscow.
The health-improvement kindergartens welcome children, whose parents pay special attention to their childs health, as well as children with physical disabilities and children with chronic diseases. Such kindergartens are glad to teach visually and hearing-impaired children, children with musculoskeletal system problems, children suffering from tuberculosis intoxication and other categories of children.
Before bringing a child to any of the kindergartens, it is necessary to comply with all the necessary formalities and to have the so-called «personal record of a child». In accordance with Decree No. 2819 as of September 9, 2003, on «Confirmation of the Order of Registration of Public Educational Institutions and Preschool Groups in the Public Educational Institutions of Various Types and Forms of the Department for Education in Moscow», the parents of a child (or legal representatives) are obliged to present to the administration of the educational institutions the following documents before enrollment to a kindergarten:
- Written application of the parents for an enrollment of a child,
- Forms No. 26 (medical history) and No. 63 (record on inoculations) from the Child Health Center,
- Medical insurance policy,
- Copy of a childs birth certificate,
- Photocopy of a passport of one of the parents (legal representatives), in which the child is registered.
The majority of private kindergartens in Moscow and many public preschool educational institutions admit children of foreign citizens, who live in Moscow.
