Savelovsky

Savelovsky — is the youngest of the Moscow rail way terminals (in 2007 it was just 105 years old), and also the most modest what comes to its appearance.

The idea of building the Savelovsky road belonged to Savva Mamontov, head of Management of Society of Moscow-Yaroslavsky railway, a famous industrialist and a patron of arts. The name of the author of the project is unknown. As likely as not that it could be a construction engineer A. S. Sumarokov.

The place for station was chosen on the suburbs of the city, at Butyrskaya gate. The new building was conceived simple enough and strict, basically one-storeyed, and only in the central part the second floor was built on (for service apartments). The building had no grand entrance. In spring 1902 the new rail way terminal — called then Butyrsky — accepted the first trains.

After reconstruction in 1980th (the project of Institute Moszheldorproekt under Y. Shamray’s management) new Savelovsky having kept its historical shape appeared absolutely changed: two-storeyed with substantial growth of the internal areas. Besides the main entrance was constructed, the building was decorated with original clock and pig-iron lanterns. As a result of recent transformations the terminal is equipped with system of video observation.
