Moscow Investment and Export Promotion Agency
The Moscow Investment and Export Promotion Agency (MIEPA), a subsidiary of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, dates back to 2006, when it was established under a joint program by the Moscow City Government and the Moscow Export Initiative Moscow City Government Project.
A Foreign Trade Information Service, accessed via the Foreign Trade Information Portal, has been set up within the MIEPA framework to ensure the agency`s activities in so far as promoting the export potential of Moscow`s enterprises is concerned. The service was launched in collaboration with the International Trade Center UNCTAD/WTO and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), which also opened up access to the vast information resources of both organizations. The service provides information to Moscow`s export-oriented companies, including reviews of their target markets (in over 220 countries) for various (in excess of 5,300) types of products, advice on tapping into new markets, analysis of the competitive environment, analysis of selling restrictions in force in various countries, and more. In providing these services, the organization largely draws on the UN Comtrade database updated by the UN Statistics Division.
MIEPA acts as the administrator of Moscow`s Investment Gateway portal. The portal`s main objective is providing assistance in drawing mostly direct investment to high-tech projects run by Moscow`s research and industrial organizations. The selection criteria for the projects have been developed in conjunction with UNCTAD. The project`s partners include investment groups specializing in investment in the sphere of natural sciences and information technology, such as MPM Capital and CDC Innovation. The website traffic statistics indicates that most of its visitors are from the USA, Switzerland, Belgium, India, Great Britain, Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy, the Netherlands, Taiwan, etc. Moscow`s companies have filed over a hundred bids to implement investment proposals, projects are still being selected, and series of interviews and negotiations between Moscow-based companies and international investment groups are being arranged in the city.
The agency is also responsible for analytical work used to thrash out proposals on government regulation of the attraction of foreign investment to Moscow`s economy, comprehensive analysis of investment processes in Moscow and Russia`s regions, comprehensive analysis of the investment process in Moscow and other Russian regions, and comprehensive analysis of the experience of government regulation over the attraction of direct foreign investment in various groups of countries (former member-states of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance, industrialized nations, emerging economies).
Moscow`s internet portal Invest in Moscow has also kicked into gear. The main idea that the portal pursues is to efficiently satisfy the business needs of foreign investors operating on or planning to enter the Moscow market using a broad range of information resources and services with the help of state of the art information and communications technology.
The agency has acquired vast experience in arranging business missions, conferences and roadshows for both foreign and Russian delegations.
MIEPA employees previously held various positions with the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the External Economic and International Relations Department of Moscow, and are experts in consulting on foreign economic activity, arranging for interregional and international technology and investment cooperation on behalf of Russian and foreign companies and organizations.
