Perspective branches

Moscow is not only commercial and financial but also scientific industry center of Russia. It demonstrates high growth rate in quite a number of branches, including high tech branch.

Construction, mechanical engineering, power engineering, food industry, printing trade, transport, communication have leading ranks in city structure. In 2007 the number of people working in these branches made 47.4% of employed population.

For the last decade there has been reduction of production sphere in the capital — a number of factories have been excluded from the industrial city structure, mainly polluting the environment, metallurgical, chemical etc.

The growth of industrial production in Moscow is first of all caused by increasing demands of domestic market. For further development of the branches metropolitan government will pay special attention to innovation activity, creation of favorable conditions for investments, business support, development of private and state partnership, interregional and international connections.

Priority branches for Moscow government are the following — transport, trade, health care, education, science and innovations.

In the forecast of Moscow socio-economic development till 2012 it’s assumed that the growth of gross regional product will make 7.5% in 2009 and 7.3% in 2010—2012. The predicted dynamics of city economical growth will allow to increase gross regional product for one employee from 944.3 thousand rubles (2007) to 1 million 923.8 thousand rubles (2012).

Processing industry will become the basis of further development and consequently of macroeconomic growth. Manufacturing of cars and equipment, electric equipment, electronic and optic equipment and also food products will remain to be leading directions.

The amount of food wholesale over the period from... to 2012 will be 17% higher. There will be increase of growth rate in retail trade, service industries (real estate activities, rental etc.).

In 2012 the share of small-scale enterprises for 2 thousand people will be 23 against 20 in 2007. The planned annual gain of population active income is in the range of 6 — 10.5%. Inflation reduction will be provided by means of growing supply of goods and services and also increase of competition at wholesale and retail markets.

In order to control the growth of food prices the Government has considered a number of activities. They provide guaranteed access of agricultural manufacturers to Moscow markets, development of cooperation and integration for increase of direct food supplies from Russian regions, creation of irreducible city buffer of food.

In order to improve the population housing conditions in 2009—2012 it’s planned to realize а program for construction of 20 mln sq.m. of living area. Demolition of five-storey houses which refer to the 1st generation of industrial home construction will be finished. General overhaul of multifamily housings with total floor area 77958.5 thousand sq. m. will be over toward 2012.

In the course of tariff control activities toward 2012 it’s supposed to complete the following: eliminate cross backing in power supply, water supply, and water discharge payment; bring down accommodation payment of citizens to 39% from public property maintenance charge in multifamily housings.
